On a road divided by a painted line or physical barrier, always drive to the left of the division and cross it only at an opening provided for the purpose. Driving across a solid dividing line is an offence; a broken line may be crossed to overtake or turn when safe.
On a road with marked lanes, you may not change lanes unless you can do so without obstructing or endangering other traffic, and you may not enter or cross a lane if your vehicle is likely to cause danger or obstruct the flow. The routine is mirrors, signal, blind-spot check, move.
Keep to the left-hand lane on multi-lane roads; the right lane is for overtaking and turning right. Do not hog the right lane, even at the speed limit.
Mandatory direction arrows painted in a lane must be obeyed. White arrows are permanent; yellow arrows are temporary (roadworks) and are equally binding.
The shoulder. A yellow edge line on the left (or a white edge line on the right of a one-way or freeway) marks the edge of the roadway. You may not drive on the shoulder beyond it, except to let a vehicle pass under the strict conditions in the overtaking section (single lane, daylight, safe, 150 m view).
Dedicated public transport lanes (bus and minibus lanes) may not be used by other vehicles from 06:00 to 09:00 and 16:00 to 18:30, Monday to Friday, except on public holidays.
